He does occasionally, like last night. I'll get him to come on just for this one at least once.

Dylan makes a good point about Hoffman helping the Padres make the playoffs so much.
Even with a good team ERA, if your offense doesn't get you any runs, you need to make sure you have a way to stick onto the narrow leads your starters hand the bullpen in the late game because if you give those runs up you probably won't get them back. Hoffman did that.
Cozy didn't read the whole thing so Dylan might have already said this before, but he told Him at one point that Hoffman had only like 4 or 5 saves and two were on errors.
That's beside the point...there obviously weren't any obvious choices. Since none of the starters really stood apart from each other, give it to a reliever who actually played a part in getting his team to the postseason rather than a starter from a mediocre team.
Trevor Hoffman's been one of the game's most dominant closers for a long time, and is approaching the end of his career. Cozy Slik has no problem giving him the nod over Webb, especially in the season when he set the all-time saves record. Webb's 27, and won largely because their was no competition in his shitty, shitty league. If he really is a pitcher deserving of winning Cy Youngs, let him prove it in the future...he has time.

i dont like giving a closer the cyo young
also, to coleman how can u give a cy young to a guy just bc hes older. like o hes ognna be gone soon might as well give him this over the younger guy. he has more time ot get one of his own. even if young guys stats wernt amazing, he still should have won. ur wrong

Yes, you can give it to a closer, especially since Webb and no other NL pitchers had a great year. Webb had as many wins as Josh Beckett, and Josh Beckett is awful. Josh Beckett would be tied for the league lead in wins in the NL. Yes, Beckett's other stats are worse, but if you don't have more wins than Beckett, how great can you be? Also, you have to look at the past and future in such an off year, in my opinion.
Does anyone know when the MVP's get announced?

idc if u think u can give it to a closer or not. idc
my beef is looking at the age of a pitcher. u dont give it to a guy getting old bc he wont be around anymore. the young guy has a betetr year, u give it to him.

But in this case, the younger guy didn't have a better year. Also, that was Coleman's point not mine so I'm not defending that, because I don't necessarily agree with it.
And now we've gone full circle.

Okay... I think we need to stop this argument unless someone finds a TREMENDOUS point, because we've gone full circle and have restated the same points over and over.

this is from a little back but dylan you cant compare webbs wins to beckets ecspecially when you look at era because the sox line-up is 10 times better than the d-backs so obviously becket will have more chances at wins, wins is really not that important of a category

Yeah, age was a pretty shitty reason...Cozy just felt like adding something to say.
Can't defend it, it's bad.
And anyways, Hoffman's best years are just around the corner.
He's in the prime of his career right now.
